It is often referred to as the 'Nile of Kerala' and holds a significant place in the culture and literature of the state. The river originates from the Anaimalai Hills in Tamil Nadu and flows through Palakkad, Thrissur, and Malappuram districts before emptying into the Arabian Sea at Ponnani.
